Check a farm or job

Before taking a job, or after a recruiter visits, check whether the farm is real, whether it has government fines, and what other workers say.

Rather have us do it? We'll help research the farm or recruiter for you.

Ask us to research a farm
1

Is the job real?

Every H-2A job must have a job order approved by the Department of Labor. Search by the employer name or the case number on your contract. Compare the pay, dates and housing to what the recruiter promised.

Type the employer name or case number in the search box. If nothing shows up, try just part of the name.

2

Fines or violations?

Violation Tracker collects penalties from government agencies, including the Department of Labor and OSHA (safety). Search the farm name or the company that owns it.

Type the name in the search box. If nothing shows up, try the owner company's name.

3

Safety inspections (OSHA)

OSHA is the workplace safety agency. See whether the farm has had inspections or citations.

Type the name in the "Establishment" box and search.

4

Banned from hiring H-2A workers?

The Department of Labor publishes a list of employers banned (debarred) from the H-2A program for violations.

Search the page for the name (on a phone: menu › "Find in page").

5

News about the farm

Find news articles that mention the farm: lawsuits, accidents, investigations.

6

What other workers say

On Contratados you can read reviews of the farm or recruiter written by other workers.

Warning signs

  • They charge you for the job, the visa or travel (illegal in H-2A).
  • There's no job order, or the pay and dates don't match what was promised.
  • They take your passport or documents and don't give them back.
  • They don't give you a contract in a language you understand.
  • They tell you not to talk to anyone outside the farm.
Find help in my state

No fines or reviews doesn't guarantee a farm is safe. Databases can be incomplete or list similar names: check the address and state.
